At the end of each trimester, 5-day experience serves two purposes: allowing credit recovery in one subject area, called an academic intensive or enrichment elective credit for students in good academic standing, an enrichment intensive. - Academic intensives review areas of the subject students have yet to master by teaching the material again, but in using a different lens. It provides extra time, smaller class size, and support to catch up struggling students up before beginning the next trimester.
- Enrichment intensives expand students’ cultural horizons by engaging them in something out of the ordinary that they would not normally engage in during the school day. A few examples are:
- Athletic Training intensive where students visited a sports complex and learned from professional trainers on how to create an athletic training plan. They then created a plan for their favorite athlete or celebrity.
- Drama - students create a play and then are schooled with acting techniques from an actress all week.
- Entrepreneurship - students developed their own iPhone app business plan then presented their work at the University of Chicago's Booth Graduate School of Business to actually iPhone app wizards who run their own business.
- Puerto Rican Cuisine where students learned about becoming a chef and opening a restaurant, cooked in a commercial kitchen at a Puerto Rican restaurant, and competed in an iron chef competition.
- Rock Climbing - for an entire week students visited various rock climbing facilities and ascended to new heights.
